Counter: Cultist vs Journeyman
|Cultist vs Journeyman|
|Set(s)||Dark Ages / Guilds|
Cultist vs Journeyman is a counter that uses Cultist's ability to quickly deal out Ruins to diminish Journeyman's ability to skip over junk cards. Marauder can also act as the counter, but Cultist is quicker. This counter works against any card that dislikes junk variety, including Hunting Party and Doctor.
Journeyman is quite a powerful terminal draw card, due to its ability to skip over a card that you name. When your deck has only one type of junk (usually Coppers or Curses), it's a no-brainer which card to name. This means that cursers can't slow down Journeyman the way they can slow down most other terminal draw. However, since there are five different kinds of Ruins, if they're being bombarded by Cultists, the Journeyman player really has no idea which card to name, since they have to name a card, not a card type. In this instance, Cultist is unequivocally better than Witch.
