with the 2019 errata, can we consider changing the name of these? none of them emulate other cards anymore. My suggestions + rationale:

  • Commanders based on the command type. i don't love it though, because it implies the command type, which some of these do not have, which will be confusing for new players who may as well call them Mice
  • Pointers because they point to the card they play; name isn't going to be intuitive to anyone who isn't familiar with the computer science term but at this point neither is emulator.
  • Cards that play other cards because uh they play other cards; don't love this because it is going to drastically increase the type of card to include stuff like ghostGhost.jpg, golemGolem.jpg, vassalVassal.jpg, ventureVenture.jpg, etc

I agree that we should change the name, but I'm not a fan of any of those proposals. Maybe instead of having a general term for cards that do this, we should change the name of this page to Leaving it there, after the (now-)shared rules mechanic rather than the set of cards. I agree that "emulator" is an outdated term, and I like Ajd's proposal to rename these cards to reflect the rules of the game. Muenstercheese (talk) 20:42, 7 March 2022 (EST)
Can we try for something less um. tense-y, more name-y? Like, If I say, "I'll play a couple peddlers and a sifter", you all know what I'm talking about; If I say "I'll play a Leaving it there" it doesn't exactly flow or follow from the naming pattern on other cards. "Delegators"? --Spineflu (talk) 22:01, 7 March 2022 (EST)
Well, we could just say Band of Misfits variant or the like, like we do with Throne Room variant and Peddler variant. We'd have to actually decide what counts as a Misfits variant, though: Band of Misfits, Overlord, and Captain obviously are; Necromancer probably is. Way of the Mouse probably isn't. Is Inheritance or Prince? I have no idea. Ajd (talk) 02:23, 8 March 2022 (EST)
Director (like as a card that directs you to play a different card)? Like we all agree, BoM, Overlord, Captain, Necromancer, Inheritance, and Way of the Mouse are at minimum the cards we need to describe for this, right? So we should pick a name that at least describes those.--Spineflu (talk) 09:10, 8 March 2022 (EST)
I'm opposed to inventing a new term out of whole cloth: that doesn't seem like the kind of thing the wiki should be doing, to me. Better for it to reflect actual usage among players. If I were trying to refer to this set of cards in writing, I think the most natural phrase I would reach for would be something like 'Command cards and those with similar mechanics' or possibly 'Command cards and their variants'. Is Command variants anything perhaps?? Saltroza (talk) 14:30, 16 March 2022 (EDT)
Also not a fan of inventing new terms. I like Command variants as it doesn't try anything new and just expands the umbrella. --Terracubist (talk) 15:22, 16 March 2022 (EDT)
I like command variants. let's do that. --Spineflu (talk) 15:32, 16 March 2022 (EDT)
Seems okay to me. Ajd (talk) 19:35, 16 March 2022 (EDT)
