The text says "If you do not have any cards left in your hand to trash, you do not gain any cards. The two cards you gain can be different or the same. For example you could trash a Gold to gain a Duchy and a Silver" But is it really allowed, since Stonemason says to take two Action cards, not a Victory or Treasure cards. 

The text you quoted describes Stonemason's when-played ability (above the line). The restriction to gaining only Action cards is placed on Stonemason's when-buy ability (below the line). These are two different things. --m_knox (talk) 13:10, 30 December 2016 (EST)
