|Worth 1 per 3 Action cards you have (round down).|
- This is worth 1 per 3 Action cards you have, rounded down; for example if you have 11 Action cards, your Vineyards are worth 3 each.
Other Rules clarifications
- Cards with multiple types, one of which is Action, are Actions and so are counted by Vineyard.
Vineyard is an alt-VP Victory card that rewards you for having many Actions in your deck; this is likely to be the case when you are building an engine, and especially so when the Kingdom offers many non-terminals that you want in your deck (e.g., Peddler variants, cantrips, and non-terminal draw), and gainers or additional +Buy to quickly add them to your deck. In some Kingdoms, Vineyards may score more than (and be a full alternative to) Provinces. However, Vineyard requires a Potion to buy, which has a couple of consequences.
- First, it means the rest of your payload (likely in the form of gainers and ) cannot be used to score via Vineyards.
- Second, like all shuffle is restricted by the number of Potions you already have in your deck. cards, the amount of Vineyards you can buy per
The second consequence usually means that you’ll want to buy a Potion the shuffle before you want to start greening. It also means that you’ll want to be able to consistently draw your Potion every turn (likely by just drawing your entire deck), and so when scoring with Vineyards you’ll usually want to achieve full deck control first (while building and adding Actions as usual) before getting a Potion. It is possible that with other cards such as University you will already have a Potion in your deck anyway, which can make the transition to greening less marked. Gain and play, for example via Sculptor, also allows you to more quickly transition to buying Vineyards. It can be a good idea to buy additional Potions after you’ve already started greening, as doing so both allows you to score more per turn and threaten to pileout the Vineyards.
It’s generally a good idea to keep a close count of how many Action cards you have in your deck when scoring with Vineyards. This will allow you to both evaluate how much you will score with the Vineyards you buy, and help you determine if you’re close to the next multiple-of-three threshold needed to score more. The latter can be especially important if you need to score more to fend off a pileout (e.g., by buying Ruins), or if some of your Actions are one-shots (e.g., Horses from Paddock).
