The Base Cards were released as a set of the basic cards needed to play any game of Dominion with up to four players. They include all of the basic cards released before Dark Ages, and new, full-card art for each card. Alchemy is still required to have any use of the Potion
card, and it is still recommended to only use Platinum
and Colony
with cards from Prosperity.
These cards can be added to Dominion (or Dominion: Intrigue first edition) to play with five or six players, or to play Dominion with an expansion without a standalone.
In 2018, the Base Cards were reprinted with the updated formatting used in the Second Edition Base set. This reprint also gave the standalone Base Cards their own unique icon.
