Capital and Mandarin is a combo that uses Mandarin's on-gain ability to avoid Capital's debt, and get one or more capitals back on the very next turn.
[edit] Article
If you have at least two Capitals in your hand and at least one other treasure, you can buy a Province and a Mandarin, avoiding debt, and giving you back your treasures to repeat the same sequence on the next turn. This results in a Golden deck variant where you can guarantee a province every turn.
To get to two capitals in hand more reliably, you can play Capital by itself, and buy a Mandarin to keep the first Capital in your hand, until you draw your second Capital.
It won't take long before your hand is two capitals, and three coppers, which can buy a Province, Estate, and Mandarin each turn. But having better treasures in your hand before triggering the combo will increase buying power.
For example:
- 2 Capitals + 2 Silvers = Colony + Mandarin
- 2 Capitals + 3 Silvers = Province + Duchy + Mandarin
- 3 Capitals = Colony + Estate + Mandarin
- 3 Capitals + 1 Silver + 1 Copper = 2 Provinces + Mandarin
[edit] Counters
This combo is especially weak against Minion, which will outright break the loop. Other strong Handsize attacks such as Legionary can reduce buying power as well.
