[edit] Doubts about "Other Rules clarifications" expanded by Mxdata

Quote start
  • Ordinary cost reduction only applies directly if nothing has been gained. If a card has been gained, then Wayfarer's "same cost as the last card gained" clause takes precedence. For example, FerryFerry.jpg on Wayfarer will reduce the cost to $4 if nothing else has been gained, but if you gain a SilverSilver.jpg, then it no longer has any effect, and it is $3 not $1. Likewise, QuarryQuarry.jpg would have no effect on Wayfarer's cost if the last-gained card was not an Action
  • It is not the cost of the last-gained card at the time the card was gained that's relevant, but rather, the cost at the time that Wayfarer's cost is checked (e.g., when buying or when trashing for benefit). For example, if you gain a Silver, Wayfarer's cost is now $3. If you then play a HighwayHighway.jpg, the cost of Silver, and therefore the cost of Wayfarer, is now $2

Starting with Quarry: I don't see how the type of last gained card should have impact on Quarry's cost reduction. Wayfarer is still an Action also when a Non-Action was gained. Second bullet: Quite contrary it is the cost at the time of gaining that is relevant. A cost reduction after gaining does affect Wayfarer the same way as it does affect other cards; it does so directly, not because the gained card got cheaper (see http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=20174.msg826818#msg826818). Furthermore Wayfarer could get cheaper while the gained card remains (Silver - Quarry).

Wayfarer's price is set as the cost of what you're purchasing. In that particular case, silver costs $3 and Quarry does not affect Silver's cost. "We have to somehow apply both "Bridge lowers costs" and "Wayfarer sets its cost." We shouldn't apply Bridge twice. So Bridge applies before Wayfarer." [1]. The specific Wayfarer/Quarry issue was discussed here [2] Mxdata (talk) 15:59, 16 March 2020 (EDT)
More directly relevant from the same thread "Ferry on Wayfarer means Wayfarer costs $4, until you gain something, then Wayfarer has the cost of the gained card.
The effects contradict each other; one of the effects has to win."[3] When Wayfarer's last-gained clause is activated, cost reducers do not directly affect Wayfarer. Bridge's effect on Wayfarer is therefore indirect - it lowers the cost of the last-gained card, and Wayfarer's cost is set at that. Things like Ferry or Quarry only affect certain cards (the specific pile the token is on in the case of Ferry, Action cards in the case of Quarry), so if the last-gained card is not affected, then Wayfarer is not affected Mxdata (talk) 16:12, 16 March 2020 (EDT)
