The 2013 Dominion Team World Cup was a online team tournament. It was the first iteration of the Dominion Team World Cup. The tournament was organized by Qvist and started on the eleventh of November. 50 players, divided into 12 teams, entered the competition. On the 15th of December, The Netherlands were crowned the champion, after beating Germany in the final, 1.5-2.5.
The 12 participating teams are divided into 4 groups of 3 teams. In each group, every team plays against every other team once. The individual matches are 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4. Every match consists of 6 games. To mitigate first player advantage both players have to go first three times. A win is worth 1 point, and a tie 0.5. A loss does not give any points. The player with more points after 6 games wins the match. If both have 3 points, the match is a draw. A win adds 1 point to the team result, a tie 0.5. After every team has played against every other team in its group, the best team from all groups will advance to the play-offs, where the winner of group A plays the winner of group D and the winners of B and C play each other. If there is a tie between teams, the following tie-breakers will be applied:
The team with the greatest difference between the sum of all game points and the sum of all opposing teams' game points advances
If there's still a tie, there will be a coin flip.
In the play-offs, a normal match is played. If these play-offs result in a tie, the following tie-breakers will be applied:
The team with the most game points from individual matches advances
If the match is still tied, the team leaders play a sudden death-match. This match follows the starting pattern A-B-B-A-A, and the first player to 3 games wins.
Sign-ups and seeding
The sign-ups had players sign up with their respective country. A country needs four players to become eligible to play in the tournament. As both the United States and Japan had more than eight sign-ups, they were allowed a second team. Belgium and France participated as one team, as both could not reach the threshold on their own.
