An autopile is a way of emptying a Supply pile by playing (or otherwise using the abilities of) cards from the same pile.

This can happen with cards that gain themselves, such as Rats or Magpie. For example, if you have a hand that contains only two Rats and have no other cards in your deck or discard pile, you can play Rats continuously, gaining all of the Rats to empty the pile.

Other autopile examples include:

  • Scepter and Artisan: Scepter can replay an Artisan, gaining another Scepter to your hand.
  • Cost reduction and Villa: With costs reduced by $3, you can buy Villa for $1 and a Buy, return to your Action phase, and play the Villa to regain the $ and the Buy.
  • Treasurer and Spell Scroll: You can play Treasurer to gain Spell Scroll from the Trash to your hand, and then play the Spell Scroll to put itself back in the Trash and gain and play another Treasurer.
  • Skulk and Growth: When you gain a Skulk, you automatically gain a free Gold, and when Growth is in effect, gaining a Gold allows you to gain a free Skulk.
