Some Dominion sets, in addition to cards, provide other materials.

Player mats

Player mats (playmats or mats for short) are a pieces of cardboard used by certain cards to set aside resources for future use. Island sets aside cards on a mat until the end of the game. Pirate Ship and Trade Route set aside Tokens on a mat to keep track of $s they generate when played. Native Village sets cards aside to be drawn later. Monument, Goons and Bishop all set aside VP tokens to be scored at the end of the game.

Tokens

A token is a metal piece used in Dominion. They are used by a number of cards to keep track of numbers. Embargo has its own set of tokens to mark Embargoed cards. Trade Route and Pirate Ship share the same design of token, used to keep track of $s they generate when played. Monument, Goons and Bishop all refer to VP tokens, which grant points at the end of the game to whoever has them.

Victory tokens

Victory tokens (or VP tokens, denoted by the symbol VP) is a feature of the Prosperity set and an example of alt-VP. These are chips that players may earn by playing certain cards, namely Monument, Bishop, and Goons. With Monument, the player gains one victory token per time the card is played. Bishop is the same way with the added bonus of gaining the number of victory tokens equal to half the trashed card's cost in $, rounded down. Goons gives the player one victory token per card bought that turn.
