* If you King's Cache a {{card|Capital}}, you end up with 6 debt when the Capital is discarded, not 18.

King's Cache is an obvious analogue to King's Court, but it is less similar than the analogy suggests. It has the same cost, but unlike King's Court, it cannot be used to do anything involving actions because treasures must be played after the action phase. Because it interacts with treasures, it can still be useful in money decks. But it also can be useful in engines, especially if good card draw enables it to be reliably paired with a high-value treasure. In engines that must rely on treasures for buying power, this card provides a way to access high buying power with the fewest cards: two cards alone are required to buy a {{Card|Province}}. In most games, it is a better buy than {{Card|Gold}} if you end up with {{Cost|7}} on any turn.

In the absence of any alt-treasure, it yields {{Cost|9}} if played on a {{Card|Gold}}, or {{Cost|6}} if played on a {{Card|Silver}}, but only {{Cost|3}} if played on a copper, and nothing otherwise. In the absence of card draw, its value is heavily dependent on the density of the various treasures in your deck: If your deck only contains Copper, it is a very overpriced Silver, whereas if your deck can reliably draw at least one silver with it, it is equivalent to buying a gold and upgrading one of your silvers into a gold, so it is slightly better than a gold. On the other hand, if your deck can reliably draw a gold, its effective value is +{{Cost|6}}, which is extraordinary, better than a {{Card|Platinum}} and cheaper by {{Cost|2}}. Because this card's value is so dependent on treasure density and quality, it benefits hugely from trashing. It can sometimes be worth buying it if you reach an early {{Cost|7}} even if its average value would be less than that of a Gold, because its value will increase as you later increase the quality of your deck, either by buying more better treasures, or through trashing.

Alt-treasure can make King's Cache even more powerful. There is an obvious synergy with Platinum, yielding {{Cost|15}} in combo. A particularly nice combo that is much cheaper to set up is with {{Card|Fool's Gold}}: the initial play yields {{Cost|1}}, but the subsequent two yield {{Cost|4}} for a total of {{Cost|9}}, just as good as playing the card on a Gold, but for a card cheaper than Silver. The fact that Fool's Gold can also gain golds onto the deck in the late game also synergizes with this card. It synergizes somewhat with {{Card|Stockpile}} as the card gets played three times for {{Cost|9}} before being exiled once, and also yields +3 Buy which is likely useful with such high buying power.

The Duration Treasures are slightly less good of a combo with this card because the durations keep this card out of play longer, but it can combine well with {{Card|Abundance}} for {{Cost|9}} and +3 Buy, which you can choose when to cash in on by buying an Action on a specific turn. It can also combine with {{Card|Astrolabe}} for {{Cost|3}} and +3 Buy on this and the next turn. The combination with {{Card|Gondola}} is also good, yielding {{Cost|6}} which you can choose to take this turn or the next to optimize your strategy. {{Card|Rope}} is perhaps better as it yields {{Cost|3}} and +3 Buy now, and +3 Cards and trashing of 3 cards on the next turn. {{Card|Buried Treasure}} also is a strong combo, guaranteeing both extra Buy and lots of coin on the next turn.

Some of the pricier alt-treasures have particularly strong combos with this card. {{Card|Stash}} can be guaranteed to be paired with this card, or in some cases inserted into a location where it will bump this card into being paired with an even better card. {{Card|Hoard}} can be paired with this card to pack your deck with 3 golds on top of {{Cost|6}} buying power, and {{Card|Figurine}} can give you +6 Cards with potential for extra buy and coin, although the coin cannot be triple unless you discard multiple actions. {{Card|Collection}} pairs even better with this card if there is a cheap and desireable action to buy, generating +3VP in that case, and still yielding {{Cost|6}} either way. {{Card|Plunder}} is a good, simple combo yielding +3VP and {{Cost|6}}. If you manage to set up the combo before the curses run out, this card can be absolutely brutal if played with {{Card|Cauldron}}: buy three actions and it deals 3 curses to all players. If any actions costing {{Cost|2}} are on the board, all that is needed for the combo are this card and Cauldron.

Some treasures, however, do not pair well with this card. {{Card|Contraband}} is particularly problematic, allowing a player to name three cards you cannot buy. {{Card|War Chest}} is also weaker for a similar reason, although in this case each successive one ends up with more banned cards. This card's combo with itself is also rather finicky: it requires you to draw two copies of it and three other treasures, a scenario that will usually only happen frequently in a deck with good card draw, and the massive amount of coin resulting will require +Buy to benefit from.

The main situation where King's Cache is weak and best avoided is in a [[slog]], where it is likely to be drawn dead. Another circumstance is in engines that do not rely on treasures, such as ones getting coin from {{Card|Conspirator}} or {{Card|Fishing Village}}.
