Blue dog is used to refer to any interaction in Dominion which seems overly convoluted.

Background

With the release of Hinterlands, many members of the Dominion community had questions on how exactly TraderTrader.jpg interacted with IronworksIronworks.jpg. Over the course of a long thread on Board Game Geek, while changing his mind on the ruling a number of times, Donald X randomly started opaquely talking about walking a blue dog (original post). This, at the time, only served to further confuse the issue, though it later turned into a fun reference to use in Dominion-related conversation. Due to the massive confusion, the final ruling was officially codified in the Dark Ages rulebook as the Lose Track rule.
