Trashing is the removal of cards from players' decks to go into a communal trash pile. Usually trashing a card permanently removes it from the game, though a few cards have the ability to retrieve cards from the trash and return them to gameplay. Cards that can send cards to the trash include trashers and trashing attacks; cards that trash themselves are often called one-shots.

The most frequently trashed cards include those of the 10-card starting deck (CopperCopper.jpgs and EstateEstate.jpgs or Shelters); trashing these weak cards has the effect of making your deck cycle more rapidly and have a greater concentration of strong cards. However, it is sometimes desirable to trash valuable cards using so-called trash-for-benefit cards, which give greater benefits when trashing more valuable cards.
