Back of Ninja, a Shadow card.

Shadow is a card type introduced in Rising Sun. Shadow cards can be played from your deck as if they were in your hand; in order to facilitate this, they have distinctive backs and are placed at the bottom of the deck when you shuffle. In most cases, it's advantageous to play Shadow cards from your deck if possible, so you can take advantage of their abilities without having to use up space in your hand to do so.
