+1 Trash up to 2 cards from your hand. At the start of Clean-up, if you didn't gain any cards in your Buy phase this turn, gain a card costing up to . |
River Shrine is an Action–Omen card from Rising Sun. It is a trasher that also allows you to gain cheap cards in Clean-up if you didn't gain any in your Buy phase, making up for the fact that trashing from your hand can prevent you from having enough to buy what you want. As an Omen, it also brings Prophecies closer to taking effect.
FAQ
Official FAQ
- It doesn't matter if you gained cards in your Action phase, only if you did in your Buy phase.
- If you play multiple River Shrines, they can all gain a card, provided you don't gain a card in your Buy phase.
- Trashing cards with this is optional; you can gain a card even if you didn't trash any cards.
- If you have multiple Buy phases, such as via Continue, River Shrine only gains you a card if you didn't gain a card in any of those Buy phases.
Other rules clarifications
- Normally, buying Continue will make you gain a card, which means River Shrine can't gain a card. However, you can still have multiple Buy phases that don't gain a card (by buying Launch or buying Continue while Possessed).

Trivia
Secret History
Initially it gave you +2 Cards if you trashed differently named cards. It was strong, while not really adding anything to most games. Then I shifted it to what it is, to tie in with being in debt, and that worked out great. At first you had to not gain any cards that turn, but I went with the friendlier, no cards gained in that Buy phase.
