Asceticism is an Event from Rising Sun. It allows you to trash from your hand by paying $2 plus an amount of $ equal to the number of cards you want to trash. Its method of use is similar to the Overpay mechanic from Guilds, though its text doesn't use that term.

Secret History

I thought I might pursue "overpay for Events" as a thing. There was one that gained Golds, one that gave you +Cards at end of turn, one that handed out Curses. Those didn't seem worth doing, and the mechanic is left at just this and, if you count Credit, Credit. I like it fine here. The card itself didn't change.
