• What matters is how much a card actually costs when you gain it. If, for example, cards cost less due to Bridge (from Intrigue), then gaining Silver would not produce +1 Buy, but gaining Duchy would.

Strategy

Galleria is a card that can mislead inexperienced players. It is usually exceptionally weak if you use it directly to buy a card to trigger the +Buy. By forcing you to buy a card costing 3 or 4 in order to get the +Buy, but only giving you +, it is like a weak Workshop: if you buy a card costing , it is equivalent to Workshop, but if you buy a card costing , it is worth -. At a price point of , which is more than Workshop, it is extraordinarily overpriced when used in this way. Just buying Galleria and using it to gain multiple cards costing or is usually a losing strategy.

The strength of Galleria lies in a different usage of it: it functions as a terminal gold in its own right, and is cheaper than gold. Sometimes this usage alone can make it worth buying, as it is often the fastest way to reach a high amount of purchasing power. But in addition to this, its +Buy can be triggered by any gaining, not just gaining through buying. The tricky part, however, is that this combination must be triggered by playing Galleria first.

Galleria tends to be strongest in games where there is abundance of actions, such as in the presence of cards like Fishing Village. In this case, its value as a terminal gold cheaper than gold can make it worth buying on its own. An abundance of +Actions can also increase the chance of triggering some sort of combo, such as in a deck drawing engine, by playing it first and then playing or triggering a gainer to activate the +Buy. Bridge can synergize with Galleria, but since both cards are terminal it can be hard to set up this combo on most boards.
