Expansions

There are currently thirteen Dominion (October 2008) expansions; each introduces a particular gameplay concept or mechanism to the game, or focuses on a different aspect of gameplay:

• Intrigue, (July 2009) a large expansion of 26 Kingdom cards, introduces Victory cards that share other types and focuses on cards that allow a player to choose between multiple effects. The first edition of Intrigue was also a standalone, coming with its own set of Basic cards. However, the 2nd edition of Intrigue (Fall 2016) is not a standalone, and as such does not include Basic cards.
• Seaside, (October 2009) a large expansion of 26 Kingdom cards, debuts Duration cards and in general focuses on cards that can have effects on turns other than when they're played.
• Alchemy, (May 2010) a small expansion of 12 Kingdom cards, introduces Potion—a new resource that most of the cards in this set only require to buy them—and focuses on Action cards.
• Prosperity, (October 2010) a large expansion of 25 Kingdom cards, introduces Platinum and Colony, -costing cards, and VP tokens (+ ), and focuses on Treasure cards and powerful or expensive cards.
• Cornucopia, (June 2011) a small expansion of 13 Kingdom cards, focuses on cards that reward or increase diversity in players' hands and decks.
• Hinterlands, (October 2011) a large expansion of 26 Kingdom cards, focuses on cards with when-gain and when-buy effects.
• Dark Ages, (August 2012) an extra-large expansion of 35 Kingdom cards, introduces Ruins, Shelters, and various other unusual configurations of cards, and focuses on trashing.
• Guilds, (June 2013) a small expansion of 13 Kingdom cards, introduces Coin tokens ( a player can save) and overpaying.
• Adventures, (April 2015) a large expansion of 30 Kingdom cards, revisits Duration cards, introduces Reserve cards and Events, which are on-buy effects that aren't cards. It also provides cardboard tokens that can modify cards, or track card or Event effects.
• Empires, (June 2016) a large expansion of 24 Kingdom cards, introduces the Debt mechanic, Split piles, Gathering cards, and Landmarks, and also reintroduces VP tokens (+ ) and Events.
• Nocturne, (November 2017) an extra-large expansion of 33 Kingdom cards, introduces Night cards to be used in a fourth phase, Heirlooms, which modify players' starting hands, and Boons and Hexes, which are given out by special cards as a way to receive/inflict good and bad random effects, and also focuses on gaining and using cards from outside the Supply.
• Renaissance, (November 2018) a large expansion of 25 Kingdom cards, revisits Coffers from Guilds and introduces Villagers to save on a mat for later, Projects, and Artifacts.
• Menagerie, (March 2020) a large expansion of 30 Kingdom cards, introduces Exile mats, Horses, and Ways—which allow a player to use an alternative set of abilities for any Action card put into play—and also revisits Events.
• Allies, (December 2021) an extra-large expansion of 31 Kingdom cards, has been announced by Rio Grande Games as of 18 September 2021.

There are also several promotional cards that are typically made for gaming conventions, a set of Base Cards for adding players or replacing worn cards, and a number of combined and "special edition" sets built from pre-existing expansions. Notably, Cornucopia and Guilds have been re-released in a combined and, in later years, revised edition (Guilds & Cornucopia) to include additional materials (Coffers mats, Bane marker).
