During dinner conversation, Brishen claims to be a jack of all trades who has traveled extensively and learned many skills. Since there is no oasis under your control, you realize that he's trying to deceive you.

Adventure Overview

While taking a holiday with your spouse, you run into some trouble when asking a favor from a wealthy friend.

List of Scenes

Game 1 vs. Serf Frederick

Your spouse's birthday is approaching, and you've created a wonderful surprise. Aided by the royal cartographer, you've created a map with a romantic foreign getaway location highlighted. It'll be a fairly long trip, over land and sea, but you two need a holiday. As your caravan approaches the first crossroads on your journey, you remark at how smoothly things are going.

Kingdom cards: Crossroads, Cartographer, Gardens, Moneylender, Smithy, Library, Chancellor, Market, Thief, Throne Room

Game 2 vs. Serf Celestria

You pass through idyllic farmland, and rejoice that your lands are so beautiful. Your journey continues into a dense forest, and suddenly, your carriage is surrounded by armed highwaymen. Tiny, your beloved pooch, yips protectively. "I'm no common thief," the leader says. "I'm a noble brigand, and I ask for only a small donation for your safe passage."

Kingdom cards: Noble Brigand, Farmland, Spy, Remodel, Chapel, Adventurer, Village, Laboratory, Council Room, Throne Room

Game 3 vs. Maiden Lynna

You're annoyed, but you pay the brigand and continue your journey. You reach the sea, board a fine sailing vessel, and travel for several days. You make land at a foreign port, where the dockmaster informs you that your travels will take you down the famed Silk Road, the highway leading to the east.

Kingdom cards: Highway, Silk Road, Woodcutter, Feast, Festival, Moneylender, Cellar, Laboratory, Bureaucrat, Market

Boss Game 4 vs. Squire Bryce

You've booked accommodations in the town's best inn; even the food is good here. While you're finishing your tiramisu, however, a man bursts into the dining room and lunges at you. You're startled, but between your quick reflexes and your guards' attentiveness, the man doesn't pose much of a threat.

Kingdom cards: Crossroads, Cartographer, Noble Brigand, Farmland, Highway, Silk Road, Throne Room, Laboratory, Moneylender, Witch

Game 5 vs. Serf Crispin

The man is identified as the former owner of a mountain tunnel to the east of here; he lost ownership of the tunnel in a skirmish with a more wealthy land owner. Now he hates anyone who appears rich, and you and your love definitely qualify as his targets.

Kingdom cards: Tunnel, Cartographer, Noble Brigand, Cellar, Militia, Spy, Workshop, Remodel, Festival, Adventurer

Game 6 vs. Maiden Ewe

The next morning, you and your entourage continue on your journey. Thankfully, the roads are free of bandits (noble or otherwise). You learn that the margrave in this area is named Brishen; could this be the same Brishen you knew years ago?

Kingdom cards: Margrave, Farmland, Highway, Village, Workshop, Throne Room, Feast, Moat, Mine, Woodcutter

Game 7 vs. Squire Winter

You decide to make a detour and visit Margrave Brishen's castle and hope your love won't mind. The locals tell you that Brishen's castle is magnificent, and he is very accommodating to visiting nobility. You convince your love that this detour is just part of the birthday surprise. You stop at an inn for the evening; you should reach Brishen's castle tomorrow.

Kingdom cards: Inn, Silk Road, Crossroads, Workshop, Bureaucrat, Witch, Moat, Library, Market, Smithy

Boss Game 8 vs. Squire Brockton and Maiden Abigail

Your arrival at Margrave Brishen's castle is announced with heralds and much pomp; this Brishen doesn't look like "your" Brishen. Oh well--at least you get to visit a really nice castle. They're very nice here, but the staff seems sort of--careful? hesitant? restrained? There's a bigger story here, and you simply must find out what's going on.

Kingdom cards: Crossroads, Cartographer, Noble Brigand, Farmland, Highway, Silk Road, Tunnel, Margrave, Inn, Gardens

Game 9 vs. Maiden Joya

During dinner conversation, Brishen claims to be a jack of all trades who has traveled extensively and learned many skills. (Funny, he doesn't know the difference between a landau and a phaeton.) He also mentions that he's visited the oasis in your kingdom many times. Since there is no oasis under your control, you realize that he's trying to deceive you.

Kingdom cards: Jack of all Trades, Oasis, Tunnel, Margrave, Cellar, Festival, Mine, Moneylender, Spy, Laboratory

Game 10 vs. Squire Allister

Feeling wary of Brishen's intentions, you and your group try to leave quietly during the night. Unfortunately, Tiny's yipping gives you away, and Brishen sends his troops after your caravan. Thankfully, the embassy of a neighboring country is nearby, and they agree to give you protection.

Kingdom cards: Embassy, Crossroads, Cartographer, Noble Brigand, Witch, Throne Room, Festival, Chapel, Gardens, Feast

Game 11 vs. Lady Ida

What could be Margrave Brishen's secret? The diplomats at the embassy say that Brishen has changed recently; he sounds different, acts different, and even looks different. They suggest you speak to a local oracle, who might be able to give you more information.

Kingdom cards: Oracle, Inn, Highway, Farmland, Thief, Workshop, Chapel, Market, Chancellor, Remodel

Boss Game 12 vs. Squire Ronin and Lady Arabella

You leave the safety of the embassy and visit the oracle. She tells you about a man trapped in a dungeon and says that your future is hazy. Brishen's troops appear at the door; there's going to be a fight.

Kingdom cards: Jack of all Trades, Embassy, Oracle, Tunnel, Margrave, Inn, Highway, Cartographer, Noble Brigand, Farmland

Game 13 vs. Squire Solomon

Your guards are well trained, and the magistrate's men are defeated easily. It appears that this "Brishen" isn't Brishen at all! Somehow, this man has usurped the castle and has been poorly impersonating your old friend. You intend to make things right.

Kingdom cards: Highway, Inn, Margrave, Noble Brigand, Oasis, Cellar, Library, Moneylender, Throne Room, Workshop

Game 14 vs. Lady Florence

With the bulk of the magistrate's troops already being held back at the oracle's house, you find your march to the castle rather uneventful. There's not much of a fight to stop your advance.

Kingdom cards: Crossroads, Silk Road, Tunnel, Farmland, Jack of all Trades, Woodcutter, Remodel, Laboratory, Cellar, Market

Game 15 vs. Gentleman Vilin

You reach the castle gates, and are surprised to find the servants holding the doors open for you. They seem relieved that you've returned and offer your guards refreshments. This is a very strange battle.

Kingdom cards: Noble Brigand, Embassy, Inn, Farmland, Oracle, Chancellor, Mine, Festival, Witch, Moat

Boss Game 16 vs. Gentleman Charles, Squire Ronin, and Maiden Osanna

You locate "Brishen" in the treasury, filling his bags with gold and gems. He tries to run, but the castle's servants block his path. One punch in the nose, and down he goes. The servants cheer.

Kingdom cards: Oracle, Noble Brigand, Margrave, Inn, Oasis, Cartographer, Spy, Thief, Militia, Throne Room

Game 17 vs. Lady Kateryn

The servants tell you that the magistrate only had a few loyal followers, in his army, and that the real Brishen, your old friend, is held captive in the dungeon. You rush to release him.

Kingdom cards: Jack of all Trades, Embassy, Inn, Oracle, Oasis, Margrave, Smithy, Library, Laboratory, Cellar

Game 18 vs. Gentleman Drake

Your old friend Brishen is bearded, and his clothes are in tatters, but he seems in good health. He tells you that the impersonator was actually his brother, Brigham, who had lost his own castle in a dispute with Queen Vada. Brishen isn't quite sure what punishment will fit Brigham's crime, but he'll keep Brigham safely in the dungeon while he thinks about it.

Kingdom cards: Cartographer, Highway, Crossroads, Oasis, Silk Road, Farmland, Market, Laboratory, Spy, Gardens

Game 19 vs. Gentleman Alvar

It's time to get this birthday holiday back on track. You travel a few more days toward your surprise destination, and now you're quite close. There's only one leg of the journey left: through the eastern tunnel. Is this the same tunnel which had been owned by the angry man in the inn?

Kingdom cards: Tunnel, Oasis, Jack of all Trades, Oracle, Highway, Farmland, Spy, Workshop, Woodcutter, Festival

Boss Game 20 vs. Lady Thomasine, Gentleman Albert, and Squire Denis

Of course it's the same tunnel that had been owned and lost by the attacker in the inn! Evidently the tunnel's new owner isn't a very attentive caretaker, because it's been commandeered by bandits. Your love is getting tired of all the fighting during this "romantic" holiday. You don't think that another battle would be appropriate.

Kingdom cards: Noble Brigand, Cartographer, Margrave, Crossroads, Inn, Embassy, Silk Road, Witch, Feast, Throne Room

Epilogue

You change plans once more and swing your carriages around towards the local town hall. You ascertain the owners of the tunnel and of your romantic holiday destination, and you offer them each much gold for their purchases. You become their rightful owners, and easily take control. Your holiday can now begin!
