Chapel, a trash-for-benefit card.

Trash for benefit (or "TfB") are trashers that provide a benefit based on the trashed card, normally based on its cost. Cards that specifically gain another card based on the trashed card's cost are remodelers.

Terminal TfB cards are usually soft terminals; when they collide with an expendable Action, they can use it for fodder, sometimes even to gain or buy a Province.

Scaling with the trashed cards cost

  • Apprentice — +1 Card per $1 and +2 Card per P
  • Bishop+1 VP per $2
  • Broker — +1 Attack, +1 Card, +$1, or +1 Favor per $1
  • Crucible+$1 per $1
  • Raze — Looks at a card per $1 and choose one to put into hand
  • Recruiter — +1 Villager per $1
  • Research — Sets aside a card per $1 to put into hand at start of next turn
  • Ritual+1 VP per $1
  • Salvager+$1 per $1
  • Scrap — A choice of different effects per $1
  • Trader — Gain a Silver per $1

Based on the trashed cards types

  • Maroon — +2 Cards per number of types of the trashed card.
  • Rice Broker — Draws a different number of cards depending on the trashed card's type.
  • Sacrifice — Effect depends on the trashed card's type.
  • Transmute — Gains different cards based on the trashed card's type.

Non-scaling effects

These effects are conditioned on some aspect of the trashed card, but the effect does not vary.

  • Catapult — Performes different attacks depending on the trashed cards cost and type.
  • Pickaxe — Gains a Loot if the trashed card costs at least $3.
  • Student — Gains a Favor and top-decks itself if the trashed card is a Victory.

Although Hideout does not provide a benefit, it does provide a penelty in the form of a Curse if the trashed card is a Victory, which can be considered related.
