Copper
Copper is one of the three basic Treasure cards included in every game of Dominion. It produces + when played. Each player starts the game with seven Coppers in their deck, meaning that, under ordinary circumstances, each player will be able to spend a total of on their first two turns—either on one turn and on the other, or and .
Although at the beginning of the game, Copper is the most useful card you have, overall it is an extremely weak card and is almost never worth buying, as suggested by its cost of —adding Copper to your deck pushes your average per card toward 1, which is far too little to be able to afford -cost Provinces with 5-card hands. Indeed, some cards (e.g. Noble Brigand and Cache) distribute Copper as a penalty. Trashing Copper early is essential to many engine strategies—indeed, there are cards specifically dedicated to trashing Copper—and learning the value of trashing Copper is one of the first steps away from Dominion novicehood ("Why would I want to trash cards that give me money?"). That said, it can be important not to trash Copper too rapidly, such as by opening with a Mint, lest you find yourself without enough Treasure left in your deck to start buying better cards.
