Exile a card from your hand. Gain a differently named card costing up to more than it. |
Displace is an Action card from Menagerie. It is similar to a remodeler, but Exiles cards instead of trashing them. Since the card you Displace remains yours, the effect is also similar to that of a gainer.

FAQ
Official FAQ
- The card you gain does not have to cost more than the card you Exiled.
- For example, you could Exile a Province and gain a Gold.
Strategy
Since Displace is a Remodel variant, many Remodel considerations, such as working better with even cost cards, also apply to Displace.
One important difference is that exiled Victory cards score. This makes exiling Estates to Alt-VP cards, such as Gardens or Silk Road, interesting as these "stepping stones" to Gold now score s instead of being trashed.
Even better are "functional" Alt-VP cards, such as Mill or Islands, which can be useful even when they don't line up with a Displace. Of particular note is Cemetery, which can rapidly thin a deck, with Displace turning an Estate and 3 Copper into a single Cemetery.
As in-hand purchasing power is less important than exiling s to Golds, Displace works well with non-terminal trashers. Raze and Ratcatcher are cheap, can be produced by exiling Copper, and, at , have an even cost (unlike Forager or Junk Dealer), so they can be turned into s later.
As Displace decks are Gold based, Feodum, is less useful. Silvers are useful to get to the first Displace, with one often being later exiled for a second Displace and any others exiled into Duchies in the end game.
While Gold is the default stepping stone to a Province, Alt-VP s, such as Nobles, Harem, Farmland, or Fairgrounds, shouldn't be ignored. Exiling a Province to gain a Farmland that in turn trashes a Gold in hand for a Province is a useful end game tactic, particularly if it leaves you with enough in hand to buy a Duchy.
Another important difference is that you can't exile a Province into a Province, which leads to Displace typically getting Gold coming and going from Provinces (which can useful for recovering previously exiled Gold).
Hoard can be useful once you are both Displacing and buying Victory cards to ensure a steady supply of Gold. If your deck has enough Gold and no extra buys, Peddler is another possibility as it can be used either to keep your deck cycling or be exiled into Provinces.
Strategically, Displace, similar to other exiling cards such as Sanctuary and Bounty Hunter, make one-province-a-turn "lean and mean" decks more viable compared to engines that buy multiple Provinces. While pure Remodel decks are typically too slow to compete with engines, Displace decks with some even cost ALT-VP cards and non-terminal trashing are considerably faster.
Synergies/Combos
- Even cost Alt-VP cards, particularly s and especially Cemetery
- Non-terminal trashers, particularly s, such as Raze and Ratcatcher
- Hoard, Peddler, Fools Gold
Antisynergies
- Odd cost cards
