FAQ
Unofficial FAQ (2022)
- This happens each time you gain a card, and works on cards gained via buying them, and cards gained other ways.
- For example with and 3 Buys, you could buy Copper, then Copper, then Silver, taking 2 , then 2 , then none. And if you play a Cursed Gold, you'll get 2 from the Curse.
- You do not get 2 for buying an Event or Project, but if the Event gains you cards (such as Advance), that can let you get from this.
- If you gain a card while you have , and then get + (e.g. you gained a Nomads), that will let you take 2 from this.
- If you gain a card that lets you overpay (e.g. Stonemason), you have to pay the extra before you gain it. This could prevent you from getting the from this.
- It's possible to receive Basilica when it's not your turn (e.g. if you react with 2 Trained Caravan Guards against an opponent's Witch).

Rewording
I suspect strongly that e.g. Basilica is fine; that many games it plays just like it always did, and that the other experience you get sometimes is not game-breaking.
The Basilica change gives us the simpler card it could have always been. Most of the time you do not have Paddock with it; when you do, those games are different, which is fine by me, and I mean there are only 6 per player on Basilica. I understand "change is bad," but this change to Basilica is adding the kind of thing people are bemoaning losing elsewhere. And I mean it's in the name of simplicity.
