Wayfarer is an Action card from Menagerie. It is a terminal draw card that can optionally gain a Silver. It costs by default, and resets to that cost at the start of each turn. However, the costs of all Wayfarers change to copy the cost of the last gained card. For example, if you do gain a Silver when playing a Wayfarer, Wayfarers then cost .

FAQ
Official FAQ
- Normally Wayfarer costs .
- When anyone gains a card other than a Wayfarer, Wayfarer's cost changes to that card's cost for the rest of the turn (or until another card is gained). For example, if you play a Wayfarer and choose to gain a Silver, Wayfarer then costs , the same as Silver; if you play Witch, each other player gains a Curse, and then Wayfarer costs , the same as Curse.
- Cards that lower costs, like Bridge from Intrigue, only apply to the other card, not to Wayfarer too (though they apply to Wayfarer if no other cards have been gained yet). For example, if you play Bridge, Wayfarer costs ; if you then buy a Silver, at that point Wayfarer costs , the same as Silver.
- Wayfarer can have a cost with Alchemy) or (from Empires) in it. (from
- Buying Animal Fair via trashing an Action card changes the cost of Wayfarer to , Animal Fair's cost, not to trashing an Action card.
- See the Unusual Costs section.
Other Rules clarifications
- All Wayfarers change their costs to the last gained card, including ones in other players' hands.
- If the cost of the last card gained changes after it was gained, the cost of Wayfarer changes too. For example, if you gain a {{Cost|0}-cost Peddler in your Buy phase, Wayfarer will cost . But if return to your Buy phase (with e.g. Cavalry), both Peddler and Wayfarer will cost .
- The cost of Wayfarer can change while resolving other cards. For example, if you play a Stonemason and trash a -cost Wayfarer, you first gain a cheaper card, and then you gain a card costing less than that card. So if you first gain a Duchy, you would then gain a card costing less than Wayfarer (which now costs ).
- Once a card is gained, Wayfarer's cost-changing effect overrides other cost-changing effects. For example, if there's a Favor token (from Family of Inventors on Wayfarers, it costs . But if you gain a Silver, Wayfarer will cost (and the Favor token has no effect).
- If you get a card through means other than gaining it (e.g. exiling it from the Supply with Camel Train) or exchanging it (e.g. with Trader), that won't affect Wayfarer's cost.

Trivia
Preview
The other minor theme is cards with weird costs; there are four of these, including Animal Fair. Wayfarer's weird cost is whatever the previous card cost. You could play Bureaucrat, gain a Silver, then Wayfarer costs . Or with two Buys, buy a Copper, now Wayfarer costs . Or buy an Engineer for and well now Wayfarer costs .
Secret History
The original idea predates Dominion being published; you can see a picture in the outtakes article (https://dominionstrategy.com/2013/06/24/dominion-outtakes/, the last section). Like always, at some point I thought, are there any old ideas I haven't tried to fix up yet, and there it was. That one was a one-shot Gold, which I already had; this one started as a Smithy. Since some games that would just be Smithy, it got an optional Silver.
Retrospective
During previews week, the card that was the most scary was Wayfarer. Now with some time passed, I feel pretty happy with the set power-level-wise. Wayfarer did not need to be as strong as it is, but it isn't ruining the game.
