+1 Action Trash a card from your hand. Per it costs, set aside a card from your deck face down (on this). At the start of your next turn, put those cards into your hand. |
Research is an Action-Duration card from Renaissance. It is a trash-for-benefit card that provides non-terminal draw for your next turn, functioning like a Duration Apprentice. It is poor at trashing Coppers, Curses, and Ruins and shines when used strategically to trash more expensive cards for huge starting hands.

Trivia
Secret History
Gradually, the set developed an at-first unintentional trash-for-benefit theme - cards that do something when gained or trashed, plus nice ways to trash them. So when I was filling the last few slots, I tried to get in some more of that. This is like Apprentice, but you get the cards next turn, and since they're set aside you have to have cards left to set aside for it.
Further development comments
It was no secret that Research was Research, we knew all about it. The cards don't have to all be all things to all people, especially not all things to people who are drawing their decks but want pity. We weren't blind to it being what it is. It wasn't just not thought of that hey what if you're drawing your deck, wouldn't you rather not be setting cards aside.
We've had, in playtest, the experience repeatedly of cards that draw set aside cards and get complained about because if everything's going your way they don't draw. This one made it through.
