FAQ
Official FAQ
- When you gain a Ferryman, you also gain a copy of whichever card was set aside in setup.
- For example in setup you might set aside Shop, which costs ; then that game, when you gained a Ferryman, you'd also gain a Shop.
- The card chosen for Ferryman can't be gained other ways, only by gaining a Ferryman.
- If the chosen card is a split pile (such as the Augurs from Dominion: Allies), different cards will be gained via Ferryman gains as they get uncovered.
Other rules clarifications
- Do any setup required of the chosen card. So if the chosen card is Young Witch, you'll add another Kingdom pile to the Supply.
- In the case of a split pile, it is the cost listed on the pile's randomizer card that determines whether it is eligible to be set aside for Ferryman.
- If the chosen pile is e.g. Odysseys, Old Map can rotate its own pile. But if the chosen pile is Clashes, Battle Plan can't rotate it.
- Contrary to the FAQ, cards like Rats can gain copies of themselves from their own pile, because it explicitly says "gain a Rats."
- However, Acolyte and Small Castle can't gain cards from their pile if it isn't in the Supply. This is because instead of trying to gain a card with a specific name, they try to gain a card with a specific type (from the Supply). [1]
- Changeling's ability still works even if it's not in the Supply (as long as any are in the pile).
- Temple and Farmers' Market can add and take from their own pile, even if it's not in the Supply.

Trivia
Secret History
Another ancient concept: a card that comes with a specific other card. The actual ancient concept was to make the second card a non-supply pile that was the same every game, but when I actually tried it I made it use an existing pile and vary from game to game.
