+1 Buy When you play this, Exile it. |
Stockpile is a Treasure card from Menagerie. It gives + like Gold and also +1 Buy, then Exiles itself. You can buy another Stockpile to get all your Exiled Stockpiles back. Sometimes you can extend the number of times you can play Stockpiles, such as by trashing one and gaining it back.

[edit] FAQ
[edit] Official FAQ
- This is a Treasure worth , like Gold; you play it in your Buy phase.
- When you play this, you also get +1 Buy, and put this on your Exile mat.
- If you play this twice with a card like Crown (from Empires), you will get + and +2 Buys total, even though you could only Exile it once.
[edit] Other rules clarifications
- If you play a Stockpile after a Kiln, you gain a Stockpile first, may discard Stockpiles from Exile, and then you Exile your played Stockpile.
- If you gain a Stockpile and then play it (with Mining Road), you may discard your other Stockpiles from Exile, but you won't discard the one you just played.
[edit] Strategy
[edit] Prolonged Use
On most Kingdoms, Stockpiles are a limited resource and eventually get Exiled with no way of coming back. However, there are a few ways around this:
- You can gain a Stockpile, then exchange the gained Stockpile for a card like Changeling while still discarding your Stockpiles from Exile. This allows Stockpile reuse without depleting the Stockpile pile.
- You can trash Stockpiles and gain them back from the trash using cards like Treasurer.
- You can return Stockpiles to the supply using a card like Ambassador, then gain them back.
[edit] Multi-play Combos
Stockpile can be exceptionally strong when you can play and discard it repeatedly within a single turn.
- With cards like Villa or Cavalry, you can play your Stockpiles, then buy another Stockpile to discard them from Exile, then buy a Villa or Cavalry to return to your Action phase. From there, you can play your Stockpiles again and repeat the process.
- Similarly, cards like Black Market or Storyteller let you play Stockpiles in your Action phase, allowing repeated use so long as you can gain more Stockpiles during your action phase.
- Gamble is one of the most powerful Stockpile combos. If your deck and discard pile are empty (perhaps after using Gamble to get there), you can buy a Stockpile to discard your Stockpiles from Exile, then buy enough Gambles to play the Stockpiles you just discarded for a gain of + +1 Buy each. By repeating the process, you can empty the Stockpile pile and have enough money and buys to end the game on piles.

[edit] Trivia
[edit] Preview
Stockpile has a different trick: it Exiles itself. You can just buy another one to get back the first one, and Exile them again, and buy another to get back those two, and so on. Until the pile runs out anyway.
[edit] Secret History
Renaissance had tried out a one-shot Smithy that went to your Jail. When the Jail left, it turned into Experiment. I knew Smithy wasn't great due to tracking, and after a game with it as a gold-gainer, went with + +1 Buy. Those of you who have really been paying attention remember that Feast was originally a one-shot + for ; wasn't that too good or something? Apparently not!
[edit] Retrospective
For Stockpile, I would get to try things, see how they played; I don't know how it would end up. Cost is nice because sometimes there's an important trasher and then you'd have to pick. I didn't think Stockpile was too strong until I was seeing it on dominion.games, testing out the programming - well after I could change the card. Normally, if I think a card is too strong, I weaken it!
On TGG my banlist is Rebuild, Keep, Fool, Stockpile...And Stockpile, man, you know we enjoyed those playtest games, but 2-player vs. a bot it's not an experience I need to have repeatedly.
