+3 Cards You may gain a Silver. This has the same cost as the last other card gained this turn, if any. |
Wayfarer is an Action card from Menagerie. It is a terminal draw card that can optionally gain a Silver. It costs by default, and resets to that cost at the start of each turn. However, the costs of all Wayfarers change to copy the cost of the last gained card. For example, if you do gain a Silver when playing a Wayfarer, Wayfarers then cost .

The other minor theme is cards with weird costs; there are four of these, including Animal Fair. Wayfarer's weird cost is whatever the previous card cost. You could play Bureaucrat, gain a Silver, then Wayfarer costs . Or with two Buys, buy a Copper, now Wayfarer costs . Or buy an Engineer for and well now Wayfarer costs .
Secret History
The original idea predates Dominion being published; you can see a picture in the outtakes article (https://dominionstrategy.com/2013/06/24/dominion-outtakes/, the last section). Like always, at some point I thought, are there any old ideas I haven't tried to fix up yet, and there it was. That one was a one-shot Gold, which I already had; this one started as a Smithy. Since some games that would just be Smithy, it got an optional Silver.
