Ride is a relatively weak Event that nevertheless can be a good use for a spare Buy and . Functionally, the effect of its presence in the Kingdom is somewhat similar to turning the Horse pile into an extra Supply pile, at a reduced price of per Horse.
Horses are generally very useful, providing non-terminal draw when played, but Ride’s main downside is the opportunity cost of using a Buy on it. The fact that Ride is an Event (and doesn’t restore the Buy it consumes, as with others like Delve) means that gainers don’t help, and it therefore typically can’t act as a sustainable source of draw unless +Buy is unusually abundant (e.g. with Worker's Village). Furthermore, since Ride provides a one-shot effect, it’s likely to be less appealing than a reusable option if your deck actually needs more draw; and if you're already overdrawing, an extra Horse might add some temporary reliability but isn't necessarily the most effective long-term improvement to your deck.
Despite these downsides, Ride provides a generally helpful effect if you do have a spare Buy and to spend; this is especially true in the early game, when the temporary draw and cycling can have a high impact, helping you get through your next shuffle more quickly. Therefore, it's common to buy a couple of Rides when the chance happens to arise; it can offer a good option for a / opening split, and can sometimes make sure of a win when bought on the penultimate turn. Ride is much more likely to see use in a Kingdom that doesn't have strong cards such as Lackeys or Border Guard competing at the pricepoint.
