- On a Possession turn, the Possessed player is the one to take 2 from this, because they cannot gain any cards on that turn.
- If a player ends the game on a turn without gaining any cards (such as by playing a Witch and emptying the Curse pile), they will still get the 2 from this, as the end-of-game check happens after the turn is ended.
- Exchanging a card does not count as gaining a card. As an example, if your entire turn is playing a Bat, trashing two cards, and exchanging for a Vampire, you will get the from Baths.
[edit] Strategy
Baths is a low-impact Landmark that is often not worth prioritizing. Gaining cards is important for both building and greening, and 2 is a relatively small amount and frequently not worth passing an entire turn for.
The one notable exception to this is with Salt the Earth in the Kingdom, as a turn that only buys Salt the Earth now scores 3 instead of 1 . By aiming to repeatedly buy Salt the Earth, you can in theory rush down the Province pile. This can be countered by contesting the Baths’ by Salting Estates, and thus usually only works if the Baths’ are not contested.
Other than Salt the Earth, Baths’ can be relevant as a small tactical bonus when you can do something useful without gaining a card. Examples of this include:
- Playing a thinner that trashes most of your hand, e.g. Chapel. This is fairly likely to happen, as mass thinners are often strong enablers of deck control, and the opportunity cost of Baths is low or zero.
- Playing a Duration card and otherwise passing your turn, e.g. with Enchantress or Church. This is more likely to happen with junking Attacks, which often weaken your ability to gain or buy cards and thus lower the opportunity cost of Baths.
- Buying an Event such as Expedition, perhaps to set up a game-ending pileout next turn, and winning with the lead from taking Baths.
