Warrior is an Action-Attack-Traveller card from Adventures. It is the upgrade from Treasure Hunter. It trashes (if cost is 3 or 4) or discards cards from the top of other players' decks. The number of cards affected is equal to the number of Traveller cards you have in play. It is not in the Supply, but can be exchanged for from a Treasure Hunter. Warrior itself, once discarded from play, can be exchanged for a Hero. There are only 5 copies of Warrior in the Warrior pile.

There is no strategy article for Warrior, but the Page traveller line has been discussed on the forum.

To better understand the Kingdoms and contexts in which Warrior appears, it may be useful to refer to the overall strategy section for this Traveller line.

Warrior is a dangerous and controversial card. Usually, when you play Warrior, it's because you want a Champion, the last card in the Page traveller line; Champion is an extremely strong engine enabler and Warrior is just an essential step along the way. However, Warrior has the option of being a highly dangerous card for your opponent, especially if they're trying to perform the same thing.
+
<onlyinclude><includeonly>Warrior</includeonly><noinclude>Warrior</noinclude> combines terminal draw with a trashing attack whose impact is often relatively small due to two factors:
 +
# There is usually only a small window of opportunity before your opponent gets attack immunity via Champion.
 +
# <includeonly>Warrior</includeonly><noinclude>Warrior's</noinclude> attack will often only reveal a single card, making it that much less likely to find a useful card.
 +
In many cases, <includeonly>Warrior</includeonly><noinclude>Warrior</noinclude> will either reveal a card outside of its price range (thus providing free cycling for your opponent) or hit an unimportant card such as Silver. However, <includeonly>Warrior</includeonly><noinclude>Warrior</noinclude> does have the potential to disrupt an opponent's Traveller progression. Notably, <includeonly>Warrior</includeonly><noinclude>Warrior</noinclude> can trash both Treasure Hunter and other <includeonly>Warrior</includeonly><noinclude>Warriors</noinclude>: while on average this is fairly unlikely to happen, when it does it can be a major setback to your opponent's Traveller advancement, which in turn can play a significant role in deciding the game, particularly if they have only advanced one <noinclude>Page</noinclude><includeonly>Page</includeonly> or if thinning and cycling are very difficult. Higher-tier Travellers are too expensive to be trashed, but discarding one of these can also be highly detrimental: in particular, the impact of delaying your opponent’s Champion can be significant. For these reasons, playing your <includeonly>Warrior</includeonly><noinclude>Warrior</noinclude> as early as possible is usually very desirable, both to increase your chances of trashing an opponent's Traveller and to reduce the chances that your own Travellers will be trashed.

Warrior is a trashing attack, not unlike Knights or Saboteur. Warrior is more limited in the amount of cards affected by it; only 3 and 4 cards will be trashed. On the other hand, it can be absolutely devastating if you have a lot of Page in play, since Warrior can trash more than one card per play in that case. Every extra Traveller in play gives you an extra opportunity to trash your opponents' key cards, assuming they cost 3 or 4. It's even worse if you can play more than one Warrior in a turn. Say you have 3 Pages and 3 Warriors, and you play the three Pages first, and then the three Warriors (for example, because you already have a Champion in play and your opponent does not). Then the amount of cards from your opponents deck that will be revealed equals 4+5+6 = 15. All cards of the appropriate cost will be trashed, potentially ripping their entire deck to shreds.
+
While in most cases Champion attack immunity puts a time limit on <includeonly>Warrior</includeonly><noinclude>Warrior's</noinclude> effectiveness as a general-purpose trashing attack, <includeonly>Warrior</includeonly><noinclude>Warrior's</noinclude> attack can be made more impactful in the following ways:
 +
* The attack becomes better the more Travellers you have in play, so whenever possible, <includeonly>Warrior</includeonly><noinclude>Warrior</noinclude> should be played after other Travellers you have in hand. In this context, extra <noinclude>Page</noinclude><includeonly>Pages</includeonly> can be useful if acquiring them has a low opportunity cost.
 +
* Cost reduction reducing prices by 1 or 2 enables you to trash more valuable cards, including more advanced Travellers.
 +

 +
Beyond its attack, the fact that <includeonly>Warrior</includeonly><noinclude>Warrior</noinclude> offers a small amount of terminal draw can make it relevant later in the game, once you have Champion in play. Depending on the availability of other draw, it might be reasonable to buy and advance additional <noinclude>Page</noinclude><includeonly>Pages</includeonly> for this purpose. However, since doing so requires playing Treasure Hunter, this will only add net draw to your deck if you have a way to handle or avoid any Silver it gains. Combined with the fact that <includeonly>Warrior</includeonly><noinclude>Warrior</noinclude> draws only two cards (equivalent to Moat) and that acquiring it takes multiple turns, there are often better options for draw.</onlyinclude>

It is advised to be very careful with buying 3 or 4 cards when you sense an incoming Warrior attack. Unfortunately, it is not possible to avoid them altogether, since Warrior itself costs 4, and you probably want that Champion to prevent more Warrior attacks. This induces quite a bit of randomness, and Warrior is often hated because the person to trash another person's Warrior with a Warrior could very well decide the game that turn, as they would have to start the exchanging process all over again.

Once per Traveller you have in play (including this), each other player discards the top card of their deck and trashes it if it costs $3 or $4.

When you discard this from play, you may exchange it for a Hero.
(This is not in the Supply.)

Warrior is an Action-Attack-Traveller card from Adventures. It is the upgrade from Treasure HunterTreasure Hunter.jpg. It discards cards from the top of other players' decks, and trashes them if they cost $3 or $4. The number of cards affected is equal to the number of Traveller cards you have in play. It is not in the Supply, but can be exchanged for using a Treasure HunterTreasure Hunter.jpg. Warrior itself, once discarded from play, can be exchanged for a HeroHero.jpg. There are only 5 copies of Warrior in the Warrior pile.

Warrior is the third step in its line of Travellers: PagePage.jpg - Treasure HunterTreasure Hunter.jpg - Warrior - HeroHero.jpg - ChampionChampion.jpg.

 • If another player discards a TunnelTunnel.jpg, they can reveal it to gain a GoldGold.jpg, but they will still trash the TunnelTunnel.jpg.

[edit] Strategy

To better understand the Kingdoms and contexts in which Warrior appears, it may be useful to refer to the overall strategy section for this Traveller line.

Warrior combines terminal draw with a trashing attack whose impact is often relatively small due to two factors:

 1. There is usually only a small window of opportunity before your opponent gets attack immunity via ChampionChampion.jpg.
 2. Warrior's attack will often only reveal a single card, making it that much less likely to find a useful card.

In many cases, Warrior will either reveal a card outside of its price range (thus providing free cycling for your opponent) or hit an unimportant card such as SilverSilver.jpg. However, Warrior does have the potential to disrupt an opponent's Traveller progression. Notably, Warrior can trash both Treasure HunterTreasure Hunter.jpg and other Warriors: while on average this is fairly unlikely to happen, when it does it can be a major setback to your opponent's Traveller advancement, which in turn can play a significant role in deciding the game, particularly if they have only advanced one PagePage.jpg or if thinning and cycling are very difficult. Higher-tier Travellers are too expensive to be trashed, but discarding one of these can also be highly detrimental: in particular, the impact of delaying your opponent’s ChampionChampion.jpg can be significant. For these reasons, playing your Warrior as early as possible is usually very desirable, both to increase your chances of trashing an opponent's Traveller and to reduce the chances that your own Travellers will be trashed.

While in most cases Champion’sChampion.jpg attack immunity puts a time limit on Warrior's effectiveness as a general-purpose trashing attack, Warrior's attack can be made more impactful in the following ways:

 • The attack becomes better the more Travellers you have in play, so whenever possible, Warrior should be played after other Travellers you have in hand. In this context, extra PagesPage.jpg can be useful if acquiring them has a low opportunity cost.
 • Cost reduction reducing prices by $1 or $2 enables you to trash more valuable cards, including more advanced Travellers.

Beyond its attack, the fact that Warrior offers a small amount of terminal draw can make it relevant later in the game, once you have ChampionChampion.jpg in play. Depending on the availability of other draw, it might be reasonable to buy and advance additional PagesPage.jpg for this purpose. However, since doing so requires playing Treasure HunterTreasure Hunter.jpg, this will only add net draw to your deck if you have a way to handle or avoid any SilversSilver.jpg it gains. Combined with the fact that Warrior draws only two cards (equivalent to MoatMoat.jpg) and that acquiring it takes multiple turns, there are often better options for draw.

[edit] Secret History

SoldierSoldier.jpg briefly was a mix of MilitiaMilitia.jpg and Ghost ShipGhost Ship.jpg; then Soldier and Warrior handed out the -1 Card and -$1 tokens respectively. Later on I had two other attacks using those and decided it would be more fun if these cards did something else. So Soldier is a Militia variant with variable money and Warrior is a KnightKnights.jpg variant with variable attack depth.

[edit] Retrospective

I can understand complaining about how demoralizing it is to lose your Warrior to someone else's Warrior. It was not overlooked, it was discussed, it was a real concern. In the end most playtesters did not mind it and as you know I let it happen. Get more than one PagePage.jpg, that's my advice.
