Choose one: +3 Cards; or +2 Actions. 2 |
Nobles is an Action-Victory card from Intrigue. It is the quintessential Intrigue card, since it both gives you a choice (either +2 Actions or +3 Cards) and is a Victory card worth 2 . Since it can give +2 Actions or +3 Cards, it can act as either a village or terminal draw.

FAQ
Official FAQ

Other rules clarifications

Strategy
Nobles is an engine piece that can provide either a weak, Necropolis-equivalent village effect or a Smithy-equivalent draw effect while also acting as a source of alt-VP. Although the card does theoretically provide both components needed for a Necropolis/Smithy-style draw engine, building such a deck with only Nobles is extremely expensive, with each pair costing in total compared to for Village and Smithy while providing a net hand size increase of only one card rather than two. Furthermore, if the Kingdom lacks other draw cards and villages, the Nobles pile is not likely to provide sufficient copies to construct a reliable engine, especially if both players contest the pile. However, Nobles can be very useful as a form of draw in an engine that also provides some bonus flexibility and , and can be pressed into service as a village if there is no better option. The card's appeal can also be significantly enhanced if it's unusually easy to gain, such as with Ferry or Advance.
A village effect similar to that of Nobles is generally much cheaper than a similar draw effect. Therefore, Nobles is a reasonably efficient addition to your deck if you need to supplement draw (which would often cost per card anyway) or if there is no better source of this available, while it is very inefficient as a stop card village, especially if you still have to buy expensive draw cards. However, if you are using non-terminal draw like Laboratory and therefore need only a few villages to allow you to play extra terminal payload cards, Nobles can be a viable source of the necessary +Actions. A deck containing a few copies of Nobles may also benefit from their flexibility, which can provide a small increase in reliability: for example, if you find Nobles in your starting hand along with another terminal draw card, you can play the Nobles for +Actions even though you may have acquired it primarily for supplementary draw. The fact that Nobles offers multiple options also means that it combines well with Throne Room variants: not only can these effectively act as cheaper additional copies of Nobles, they also further increase the flexibility by allowing you to draw first and then choose whether to use your second Nobles play for +Actions or for more draw.
The role of Nobles as a supplementary source of is often relatively minor, but it can provide a useful points lead in advance of the greening phase if you are using it as part of your engine. This can make it especially appealing if gains are difficult to come by, since an early lead will be correspondingly difficult for your opponent to catch up with. More generally, even if there are stronger engine components available, the alt-VP can make Nobles increasingly attractive as the endgame approaches. Finally, as a Victory card, Nobles sometimes provides a useful interaction with Displace, as you can alternate between Exiling Nobles to gain Province and vice versa.
